The Mount Shasta Tinman Triathlon is Dunsmuir Rotary Club's major fundraiser. But it's also one of the most enjoyable triathlons in northern California with 22 solo (men & women) and 20 team categories. With so many categories, we have tons of winners. And thanks to the support of regional businesses and agencies, we also have tons of "door prizes."

The Tinman has enjoyed increasing popularity over the past few years thanks to the encouragement and financial support of many local and regional businesses. Their support has allowed Dunsmuir Rotary to continue its community and world service activities.

If you're looking for a fun, low mileage triathlon in one of the most beautiful settings imaginable, try the Tinman.

Applications will be available for download after June 1, 2012. If you wish to be put on the Mount Shasta Tinman mailing list, email us at or call Will Newman at 530-235-5735.

Course Information:

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: While distances in the Mount Shasta Tinman Triathlon are the shortest distances allowed for a TriFed sanctioned race, this event is strenuous and requires training. If you  not sure if you are in proper shape to compete, please see a physician before entering. Also, this is not a TriFed sanctioned triathlon.

Swim: 740 yards in Lake Siskiyou. The route is a loop starting at the Lake Siskiyou Camp Resort marina. You swim around a patio boat and return to the boat ramp. The boat ramp and transition areas are swept by Dunsmuir Rotary members so moving to the transition area from the Lake is pebble-free. Lake temperature usually is between 70 and 75 degrees at that time of year, so wet suits are encouraged. If you are nervous about swimming in an open lake, there are several rescue boats on the course. And you're invited to wear flippers. (But you cannot medal in your category if you do).

Bike: 10 miles going through Lake Siskiyou Camp Resort and down W.A. Barr Road and back. The route is well marked with signs and road paint. There are guides posted at various intersections along the way to ensure safety.

Run: 4.5 miles. Approximately 2/3 of the route is on a fire road. The rest is on a little-traveled paved road. The route is also a loop, and there are 3 water stops (2 at one position, out and back).

Click here for diagrams of the routes.

Your support of the Mount Shasta Tinman Triathlon helps support youth projects of the Rotary Club of Dunsmuir including:

Dictionary Give-Away Program — Every 3rd grader in Dunsmuir and Castella receives a beautiful, hardbound American Heritage Children's Dictionary of their own

Youth Exchange — Every year we send at least one high school student on a Rotary Youth Exchange to a foreign country. We also receive at least one student from a foreign country to experience American life as it really is … not as it's depicted in movies and on television

Scholarships — We provide $1,500 a year in college and Youth Exchange Scholarships.

Leadership camps — Every year we send at least one high school junior to Camp Royal (Youth Leadership Development) or to Camp Venture (Youth Leadership and Business Ethics Camp)

And more …

Special Thanks to all of our sponsors. Lake Siskiyou Camp Resort, Law Offices of Leonard & Lyde, and Mercy Mount Shasta are our major sponsors. Much of the recent success of the Tinman is because of their help, encouragement, and sponsorship. We are also supported by other generous sponsors whose names will appear here shortly.

We are especially grateful for Lake Siskiyou Camp Resort's sponsorship. They sponsor us by providing the beautiful venue for the event during one of their busiest weekends. And they ask no payment from us, so we can use more of the money we collect can go to our community service projects.

Have a great time while supporting the community service projects of the Rotary Club of Dunsmuir.
